Music and Words for the People of Ukraine

Ribble Valley Labour Party are hosting an evening of Music and Words for The People of Ukraine on Friday 10th June 7:30pm.

With an array of artists involved in this open to all event, its aim is to raise vital funds for those in Ukraine most in need of our help at this time. All proceeds from the evening will go towards the Disasters Emergency Comittee – Ukraine Appeal.

Hosted at St Mary’s Church, Clitheroe, tickets are £5 and can be purchased from eventbrite or by calling Ian on 07872183552.

As we take time to relect on the ongoing conflict we shall be joined by folk band Hindle Wakes, poets Helen Shenton and Sue Beswick as well as classical jazz artist The Cassis Collective and more special guests. See below for a full preview of our performers on the evening.

Hindle Wakes
Hindle Wakes

Hindle Wakes are Tom Hindley, John Gill and Ian Smith. They went to the same school in Manchester and bonded over a love of folk music.  Their music now covers folk, traditional and modern songs many with firm Lancashire roots!  Guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele are used to perform them. Hindle Wakes are a well-travelled band – from Blackpool to Bridlington, Kendal to Birmingham….and Ireland, France and Belgium. The band have recorded two CD’s, performed on many radio stations, clubs, town halls, churches, trains and barges! A band not to be missed – especially for this special concert at St. Mary’s Church in  Clitheroe.

Helen Shenton

Helen Shenton has a passion for poetry and performs at spoken word events throughout the North West. ‘My poetry,’ Helen comments, ‘often springs from a sense of ethical value: poetry of conscience, to express my reaction to living.’ Helen lived in Russia for several years and is delighted to perform at the Ukraine Concert.

Sue Beswick
Sue Beswick

Sue Beswick is a veteran performer of humorous and insightful poetry which always creates a spark with her audiences. She regularly appears with The Greenmount Band at churches, community centres and recently performed at the Clitheroe Mayor’s Charity bash!

Cassis Collective
Cassis Collective

The Cassis Collective are stalwarts of the local jazz scene and regularly perform their blend of classic and French jazz in many venues – recently the wonderful Ribble Valley Jazz Festival!
